Two main threads weave through our open-space protection work. One emphasis is planning for connected open-space networks in metropolitan areas, focusing particularly on greenway planning. A second area of work is the conservation of working land— farms, ranches, forestland, and natural systems. We are adept at listening and responding to wide-ranging perspectives to accomplish open-space protection solutions. We assist local governments, nonprofit organizations, and landowners in the following areas:
- Research landscape change, particularly as background for local open-space protection initiatives;
- Write strategic or management plans for open and working landscapes, bringing together and interpreting biological, social, and physical sciences;
- Consult on the implementation of greenways and other connected open-space systems;
- Assist land trusts in landscape-level work and consult on organizational effectiveness;
- Facilitate meetings with landowners, government decision-makers, nonprofit organizations, and other stakeholders; and
- Help plan mailings and other written materials for landowners and other county residents on landscape planning topics.
